I was very excited when I got my new book. There is even a HEARTFELT THANKS for buying this book. It even says ON THE FIRST PAGE, AS A TOKEN OF APPRECIATIONS I WANT TO GIVE YOU A FREE 40 PAGE EXCEL RESOURCE GUIDE, AGAIN ABSOLUTELY FREE. YEAH RIGHT. It does'nt even WORK. NO SUCH PAGE. THANK YOU FOR NOTHING. WHY ARE YOU OFFERING THIS AND IT DOES NOT EXIST. THIS IS VERY UPSETTING. NOW I HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER RESOURCE GUIDE.

About the Author

Brodie s first recognition as a photographer came when in 2008, unbeknownst to him, his work was submitted to and then received the Baum Award for An Emerging American Photographer; this lead to a growing awareness of his work. Unfazed by this initial success and having never fully identified as a photographer Brodie chose to remain untethered to the expectations of the art market. Brodie recently graduated from the Nashville Auto-Diesel College (NADC) and is now working as a mobile mechanic in his silver '93 Dodge Ram truck.

Very interesting book. Must say I ordered it on a whim and am not disappointed. Wish it was a little longer, but the photos are all great. Very youthful, but with a certain oldness to them. It's almost like looking at a book from the heyday of railroad jumping (like the 40s or 50s). Overall the book is beautifully produced and the photos are wonderful. You can tell the photographer is self taught and not afraid of trying different styles out.Laid out one photo per page, with one blank (white) facing page so you are able to really focus each photo as a singular piece of art.

Mike Brodie's discovery and overnight success in the art world reminds me of how Vivian Maier shot to fame. Unlike her, however, Mike Brodie is still very much alive. This book is a revelation, albeit a rather brief one. The images are raw and immediate, with a deep compassion for their subjects and a natural feel for composition. The fact that Brodie had no formal training in photography makes them all the more remarkable. I just wish there were many more that could have been included in this thin volume. It's also a great pity that Mr. Brodie has hung up his camera with no plans to continue photographing. But I'm grateful that we have these, at least. And who knows? He's still young. Someday he might return to the craft. In any event, this book belongs on the shelf of anyone who loves the art of photography.

The photographs are stunning, but for the price it would have been nice to have some context for the project. How did the photographer start this train jumping trip? How did he come to befriend this group? What did they think about someone photographing them? What did the photographer learn about these kids, about himself, along the way? Some sort of text in the book would have been great.

These photos of the traveler kids have an amazing, casual, relaxed intimacy to them because Mike was one of them, a traveler kid himself, who later stumbled into taking photos. (As a photographer myself, I like seeing what he's captured, and I'd love to see the outtakes.)My 23 year old daughter has been a traveler kid for 5 years, riding freight trains, hitchhiking, walking, driving, taking buses, getting escorted out of towns. She's been to every one of the lower 48 states. She doesn't know Mike Brodie, but the life he lived and shot is just what she is doing. So, these shots are very poignant for me. If you like seeing people enjoying a different kind of freedom than most of us are brave enough to go after, you'll like this book. It's a fresh perspective and a perfect example of the idiom: freedom ain't free.

Documentary photography can't never get out of the ethical issues, but this is a very rare exception. The beauty about this book is that the photographer captured the magical moments without any hypocrisy, hipsterism, snobbism nor cynicism. This book is simple, real and intimate. Juvenile, fearless and idealistic life is here. Full of truly eternal moments which are almost unreal. I had a feeling that I was sucked into a fairy tale instead of looking at a reflection of the real world.A masterpiece.

I believe this is one of those books that gathers steam and importance over time. An important document pieced together with a true artistic eye. I expect there will be more to come from this talented photographer/documentarian.

What Is the Women’s Rights Movement?     November 8, 2016       You might not expect an old cemetery to be a busy place on Election Day in the United States. But 2016 was different.   For the first time, a woman was running for US president from one of the two major political parties. It was Democrat Hillary Clinton. Her nomination was a milestone in the struggle of American women to achieve equality with men.   To celebrate, visitors streamed to Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester, New York. They wanted to honor the memory of Susan B. Anthony. She was an early women’s rights leader. People lined up to place flowers and flags on the grass. Soon, “I Voted” stickers covered the simple gravestone.    Susan would have been delighted. She devoted her life to the cause of women’s suffrage—the right to vote. Once, in 1872, Susan voted in a presidential election. It was illegal back then, and she was arrested. One newspaper published an illustration of her with the title “The Woman Who Dared.”   A judge sentenced her to pay a hundred dollars. Susan told him she’d “never pay a dollar of your unjust penalty.” She never did.   Susan B. Anthony didn’t live to see her dream come true. American women didn’t win the right to vote until 1920. That was fourteen years after she passed away.   And although Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016 made history, she didn’t win the election. No woman has ever been elected president or vice president of the United States . . . at least not yet.   As Susan once said, “Failure is impossible.”     Chapter 1: Early America     On March 31, 1776, Abigail Adams picked up a quill pen to write to her husband, John. It was a dangerous time. The thirteen colonies in America wanted to separate from England to form their own country.    John Adams was often away at the Continental Congress in Philadelphia. John was there to help write the Declaration of Independence and discuss how the government of the new United States of America would work. Abigail stayed home in Massachusetts to care for their children and farm.   Still, Abigail had a keen interest in plans for the new nation. And she often shared her ideas with John. For one thing, Abigail believed slavery was wrong. By 1810, the number of enslaved people in the United States—almost all living in the South—totaled more than a million.   Abigail also spoke out for women. At the time, women in America had few rights. When a woman married, she suffered something called “a civil death.” This wasn’t a real death, of course. But the law didn’t recognize her as a separate person anymore. It meant that a married woman couldn’t own property. She had to turn any money she earned over to her husband. Divorce was rare. However, if a couple did separate, in most cases fathers gained custody of their children.   Abigail didn’t like any of these rules. She hoped John and the other Founders would make different laws for the new nation. And so she wrote, urging John to “remember the ladies, and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.” Abigail added, “Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of husbands.”   John wrote back, half joking, “Depend on it, we know better than to repeal our masculine systems.” In other words, even loving husbands like John Adams wanted to keep society the way it was.   The Founders were bold men. But perhaps Abigail Adams was bolder. For she also told John she thought women would start a rebellion someday against laws “in which we have no voice or representation.”   Abigail Adams was right. In 1848, only thirty years after her death, the women’s rights movement began. And it was another busy wife and mother who set things in motion.     Chapter 2: The Seneca Falls Convention     Elizabeth Cady married Henry Stanton on May 1, 1840. Even as a twenty-four-year-old bride, Elizabeth was already questioning her role as a woman. She left out the word obey from her wedding vows. She also kept using her name, becoming known as Elizabeth Cady Stanton.   Her husband, Henry, was a well-known abolitionist. That means a person working to abolish—to end—slavery in America. However, even at an abolitionist convention they attended, the men refused to allow women to take part. Elizabeth felt outraged. So did another woman named Lucretia Mott. Shouldn’t women be treated as equal partners in the fight against slavery?   Elizabeth and Lucretia decided to do something for women’s rights. It was eight years before they were able to begin. By then, Elizabeth was a busy mother. The family lived in Seneca Falls, a town in upstate New York.   On Sunday, July 9, 1848, Elizabeth, Lucretia, and three friends gathered together. Elizabeth poured out her frustrations about the unfair treatment of women. She proposed “a public meeting for protest and discussion.”   Her friend Lucretia and the others felt the same. Right away, they got started. They wrote a notice for the newspaper announcing a “Women’s Rights Convention” for July 19 and 20—the very next week! There wasn’t much time to plan. What should they say?   Elizabeth decided to use the Declaration of Independence as a model. She called her version the Declaration of Sentiments. She wrote: “We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men and women are created equal.”   Elizabeth’s Declaration of Sentiments included eleven demands for action. One was for suffrage. This was a shocking idea at the time. Women couldn’t vote anywhere in the world! The demand was so bold, her husband refused to attend the women’s first meeting.   Elizabeth held firm. Her father was a judge, and she’d grown up reading his law books. Elizabeth understood that the best way to change society was to change its laws. Without the legal right to vote, women could never be full citizens.   Even on such short notice, more than three hundred people, including about forty men, flocked to the Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls. It was July 20, 1848. Elizabeth read aloud the Declaration of Sentiments.    When she got to the part about women voting, she declared, “The right is ours. Have it, we must. Use it, we will.”   At first, this idea didn’t go over well. Then one man spoke up in support: the great African American leader Frederick Douglass. In his abolitionist newspaper, The North Star, Douglass wrote that “there can be no reason in the world” to deny women the vote.   In the end, one hundred people at the Seneca Falls Convention—sixty-eight women and thirty-two men—supported the right to women’s suffrage.    Years later, Frederick Douglass reflected that it had taken women a lot of “moral courage” to demand the vote. It was not easy to start such a campaign, he said, “with one-half the whole world against you, as these women did.”   Frederick Douglass was right: Many people were against women’s rights. After the Seneca Falls Convention, one newspaper said the changes women wanted were “impractical, uncalled for, and unnecessary.” Another declared, “A woman is nobody. A wife is everything.” In other words, women belonged at home.   But Elizabeth soon found another friend who shared her dedication to women’s rights. Her name was Susan B. Anthony.

As a seasoned "shade tree mechanic" there is not much that is outside my comfort zone provided I have the right tool or lift to work on a car or motorcycle. Well, ok, wiring is my Achille's heel. This book lays it out clearly and I'm pleased I purchased the e-book. About to get wrenching on an older Volvo 240 so that is where the rubber hits the road for me with my next wiring project. (Wish me luck!!)

This is a fantastic book, and Tony Candela really knows how to put things in plain English. A couple of points I'd like to make:#1: The book left you wanting more...more projects, more information...just...more. Which he is happy to give everyone - in the second book of this series...(sigh)#2: Relays...they're important...they're awesome...they're the most important thing on the planet as far as Tony is concerned and when I finally learned about them, I couldn't agree more. However, for something so critically important...I felt his explanation of what the relay's job was lacked a bit of detail...maybe it was me, maybe I didn't read it well and I should go back and re-read it a couple more times...but...That being said, I read his book cover to cover and still felt I didn't quite "get" relays. One technical writeup I found online later, and I fully understood relays, how they worked, what they did and why they are just so gosh darned important in cars!So, long and short - it's a great book, if you're like me, be prepared to look up relays online and get the real scoop...and be prepared to shell out another wad of cash for the second book that walks you through more projects and gets you a lot more hands-on.

Probably not a great book if you know what you are doing. I know cars inside and out, and have even rebuilt differentials and two engines. I don't know squat about wiring and electrical, however. Going back to square one for me was tough to do, ego-wise, but my more or less thorough automotive education has large holes that need to be filled. I am used to working out of manuals and such that are very tech oriented, but I knew zip about the tools and terms used for electrical work. This book got me up to speed enough to allow me to continue self teaching with more advanced manuals. I now understand most of the basics and am no longer reluctant to work on my aging wiring harnesses and connectors. Not a bad purchase at full price, but as a Kindle book it was a steal. At this price, if you do not like it you are not out very much. I though it was very useful and now have a much more evenly balanced skill set.

I got tired of always going to the internet to look up quick information on a job I’m doing and finding multiple different answers to my one question. So I’m buying books from now on! This book has loads of information in it, and is great reference material for automotive electronics. It covers electronics principle, splicing procedures and configurations, recommended tools to use, the do’s and don’ts of automotive wiring, and covers many other things you might find in your vehicle. Like I said this is great reference material that is full of step by step procedures on troubleshooting as well as adding to the circuitry of your car I.e effectively using a digital multimeter to your advantage. Buy it

To be frank, with the internet i look to guides like these with some hesitation. I was pleasantly surprised at both the quality and how the content was soo well constructed and practical for my projects - very impressed.the internet would surely have the information in this book, but the cadence and step by step walkthrough and priceless, this is great for those venturing into 12v wiring and well worth the investment.

I am in the process of restoring a 45 year old car with atrocious wiring. After looking at the burnt wiring and tangled mess under the dash I went looking for a book that would help me figure out how to rewire the car. I ultimately purchased four books on automotive electrical projects, including Tony Candela's "Automotive Wiring and Electrical Systems" and his follow-up book "Automotive Electrical Performance Projects". Candela's two books are truly superb. If you are new to automotive electrical projects I recommend starting with his first book (Electrical Systems) then read the book on Performance Projects. The two books together lead you through the simple theory you need to understand the practical application of actually installing the wiring. I'm still in the process of installing an aftermarket wiring harness, plus rewiring the battery/Alternator/Starter system and upgrading the ground system for the entire vehicle. The books helped me decide what kind of wiring to upgrade, the tools I needed, types of connectors, how to install headlight relays and numerous other factors. There are quite a few books out there that tell you about Ohm's law and other technical details about automotive electrical systems. These two books show you "what to do" with detailed photos and diagrams that can be understand by your average backyard mechanic. Whether you need a simple courtesy light upgrade or a complete wiring harness install, there's information here that will help get the job done.

I liked the book, read it cover to cover, but found the writing style far more personal than technical, which is ok to a degree but I still wonder if the technical areas I need(ed) help with were covered enough. Regardless, I think the book is a good solid primer to the basics and I am sure it will help me with wiring my project.One really strong recommendation: the areas about trouble-shooting are excellent, so if you're looking for a good reference book on diagnosing automotive electrical issues I think you'll find this book exceptionally helpful.

As a child welfare professional embarking on my own fostering/adoption journey, I can't say enough about this book. I've often been very frustrated and worried by prospective adoptive/foster parents who seem woefully unprepared, and although well-meaning, inadequately able to meet the children's needs (rather than their own hopes/dreams). This book doesn't paint the overly-hopeful, rosy picture of adoption that so many wish for. It gives the reality, and then gives hope to that reality, and really concrete ideas on how to make that reality better for everyone.This book alone is better than days and days of foster/adoptive parent training. Each chapter covers important topics in depth, but short enough to actually have the time to read them when time is precious. There is a quick review for easy reference after each chapter, followed by questions to help you integrate what you've learned in your own situation.The chapters on school-related considerations are a blessing... this is material that is rarely covered, yet is so important.There is so much I could say, but most importantly, this book covers what I wish every adoptive parent or person considering adoption knew! It's also helped me to see how social workers can better understand and support foster and adoptive parents.Time and money well spent!

Jayne Schooler is the real deal! Her insights and techniques are proven - they work! Having adopted four children internationally (two teens and two younger kiddos) as well as having hosted orphans from Ukraine, in families with children from trauma. This book is a must have. Read it, and then be ready to keep referring back. It is immensely helpful.

Required reading for becoming foster parents with our agency. A decent book but it spends a lot of time focusing on the problems, rather than offering suggestions. Great sample of home study questions in the back.

I am a pre-adoptive parent, and I am very glad I read this book so early in this stage of older child adoption. I have a feeling I'll be referring back to this book, especially since the book provided lots of practical tips and strategies. I've already shared details related to the schools chapters with one of my teacher friends. General Ed teachers need this type of trauma education, too!

As a foster-to-adopt mother of a family relative, I have struggled with the isolation of therapeutic parenting, the inability to share my full family story without affecting the privacy of our adoptive daughter, and how much people can't understand the emotional toll of parenting a traumatized child unless they have walked that path themselves as a parent. This book tells you you're not alone...you're not inadequate...that the exhaustion that is therapeutic parenting is normal. It tells stories that are pretty normal and relatable; these stories explain why you're so tired and why this is so hard. There are lots of books that try to do the same, but this is the first that is full of NORMAL examples of kids' behaviors--not the outlying arsonists and murdering horror stories that so often represent traumatized kids in parenting books. Our daughter is not dangerous, and is also struggling with some very big stuff that makes her act out in big ways occasionally. I appreciate that this book is full of every-day examples of how parenting wounded children affects their foster and adoptive parents and siblings, while helping parents realize that they are normal....and never really as alone as we can sometimes feel.

This book and another were recommended for learning to cope with our foster son. As good a read as there is for this particular topic. There just really aren't that many books for foster to adopt families.

This book covers in pretty good detail the difficulties that might arise when before, during and after an adoption of traumatized children. I like that the author tries to prepare the reader without discouraging this type of adoption. There is a good amount of writing here on setting your expectations realistically to avoid a failed adoption. Schooler labors in her writing to teach that parenting and loving traumatized children is hard, but also can be extremely rewarding.

Finally, someone who speaks to our daily challenges. The author comes alongside us adoptive parents and addresses both the issues and the inner workings of the adopted adolescent brain. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in the day to day and feel isolatedand like we’re missing something. Refreshing and a must read for all adoptive parents and their families.
