I'm a second generation American and Half Dane from my mother's side. My grandfather was from Nibe as well as my grandmother. On my father's side I am German. I was born in 1933 and too young to be aware of the surrender of the Danes to the occupation of Denmark. My family was silent in the years that followed, so when I chose to read this book, I was shocked to learn of the Danish attitude regarding the Nazis.I have great admiration for the young men and women with the courage it took to stand up to their countrymen and try to make a difference. It is this kind of heroism that makes me proud of my heritage.I found this book to be very enlightening and an easy read.

I bought this book to add to the Little Free Library we have nearby. Intent was to offer something to read for middle school students that would be educational and inspirational. Not personally being in the target reading group, I can only try to remember what I found interesting and inspiring at that age. Yes, I think it meets both those objectives. With lots of photos and diagrams and a brisk pace, it provides sufficient detail to be understandable and engaging without becoming bogged down with details that a younger reader might find superfluous. There are many boys mentioned in the book and it is a bit difficult to remember who is who as the story progresses. In part this is because of the unfamiliar Danish names. The shift from narration to first-person accounts of the events throughout the book adds to the authenticity, but may also make it a bit more confusing for younger readers not familiar with this style of historical accounts. Bottom line: a worthwhile read, but might take a bit of extra concentration to fully understand the entire story.

My 12-year-old son, who REFUSES to read like you'd refuse cyanide, actually read this book! I can't comment on the content specifically as I haven't read it yet, but he was actually interested. That's 10 stars in my book.

Readers of WWII fiction and non-fiction will love this less known story of Danish rebellion as Hitler stormed across Europe. Phillip Hoose tells of private school teens who grew tired of watching their countrymen just accept the presence of Nazi soldiers and Hitler's laws and began to strike back, starting with small acts of defiance and ending with outright sabotage that inspires a country to take action. Written in a more narrative style, even readers who avoid non-fiction will enjoy this action-packed book. Recommended for grades 6-adult

Got this for my son to read to meet his N/F requirement. He's only 50 pages into it thus far and loving it. He's 6th grade this year and has a form of autism so I had to make sure the story we went with was relatable while also compelling discussing issues outside of a single idea or person. He's loving the young men and the historical element. I plan to get The Plot to Kill Hitler for him to continue his reading on the subject as suggested by several people.

I bought this to read with the 14 year old I mentor as she is interested in WWII. Though not a terribly exciting book to read, it has been very interesting. It is a story I've not ever heard before and I am enjoying learning about the Churchill Gang along with my mentee. I am glad for the pictures and little info boxes as they definitely add to the book's enjoyment.

I am a 5th-6th grade teacher and this book was a wonderful way to introduce how kids their age can be empowered to change the world. The example set by these children really inspired my students. This book is well-written and contains both primary and secondary sources (more of a bonus for a teacher). Great book!

This is a really interesting book about a little-known group of heroes in World War II. It is the story of the "Churchill Club," a group of teen boys living in occupied Denmark who conducted sabotage and harassment of the Germans in their town. The main character, Knud Pedersen, is interviewed by the author and much of the book comes from his first-hand accounts. I really enjoyed reading about how these boys took a stand against the Nazis in WWII Denmark.
