Let me start by saying this is a decent book, and worth what they are asking. If you're interested in towing, this is a four star book. It covers a lot of good information, but some of it is literally copy and pasted from other sections of the book (he mentions hay bales scratching his truck bed three times, for instance). There is a little bit of editing that could have been done as well. Some of it is simply idiosyncratic of Andre's English (he is Russian), but some of it is just sloppy editing.This is a fairly fast read, but it's about the right length for what it covers. He covers a lot of ground, but I would say 80-90% of the book assumes that you're going to be pulling a trailer. Probably a large trailer, certainly a heavy (for the truck) trailer. If you are planning to use your truck for in bed cargo or as an off road plaything, there simply isn't a lot of information here for you. Yes, he addresses these, but it's almost more of a "By the way, you can also do this when you're not towing."There is also a certain amount of new truck bias. It has some very good suggestions on buying a used truck, but the suggestion is really to buy a new truck with an eye to towing a heavy trailer. I'm not aware of any similar books on the market, so I can't suggest you look for something different, but I would very much like to see some proofreading, editing, and above all some expansion of the book beyond towing. Hopefully there will be a second edition with more content and better balance.
For a newbie to the truck world it did contain a lot of good information, especially about towing. That said, they should really start working on a second edition of this book. My complaints primarily are with the editing. There were some chapters where I'd swear I read the same paragraph twice. There were smatterings of grammatical and punctuation mistakes as well. I really enjoy watching Mr. Truck and the TFL guys' videos, but I expected something a bit more polished from professional journalists.
This book contains some good information, but its writers (and readers) would have benefited greatly from the efforts of a professional editor.How does a book come to market without, apparently, having been red-penciled by a proof reader?Ironically, the book closes with a cautionary tale told by a member of the TFL staff, who, as an inexperienced truck adventurer, experienced catastrophe because he was woefully ill-prepared for the task before him; the authors of this book seem to have been equally unprepared for the adventure of book writing.
My husband loves watching their YouTube videos on trucks and cars. I was skeptical of how this book would be. In the end, we keep buying more copies (4 so far) because he wanted to give some to his friends and we’ve read it together in bed several nights and I actually enjoyed the chapters I’ve read! Who knew? Their sense of humor comes through, which is what I like. But their experience and knowledge comes through, which may be what my husband likes best. If you want to know about trucks, from diesel to gasoline, you will not be disappointed. We love the advice on buying trucks. It’s already saved us from a bad buy.
Written by the guys over at The Fast Lane Truck, Truck Nuts is a great book for those who love trucks, or are looking to purchase a truck. This book is basically part FAQ for trucks and part anecdotes. It's a great mix of information and entertainment. The book overall is a pretty quick read, and it is broken up in chapters based on subject. Overall this is a great collection of years of experience but I would say the section about buying a used truck is especially useful for anyone looking to do so.
Good, entertaining read. Not much more information then you get following their website, still a way to put all that expertise in one place and support the work they do on the website. The videos on the website are full of facts and demonstrations.
This is a good book for folks both new to and pro truck drivers. Gives you a lot to chew on in terms of making decisions about what to consider when buying trucks and reviews of (now older model) trucks. If you like TFL Truck, you will enjoy this book!
I like info and stats so this was not the right choice for me. This book contains a lot of subjective talk. This book will be dated in 6 months. It is a quick read. Less than an hour to read the entire book.
