Although this book is nearly twenty years old, it has a unique and slightly different but practical approach to OCD. Citing many different patients and their OCD issues, one gains an understanding of the individual’s journey as well as the family or spouse. It takes a four-step approach to handling your OCD; Relabel, Reattribute, Refocus and Revalue. It is explained in much simpler terms in the book, but it is the first book where I could actually understand what the process was and how to implement it immediately. Drugs are described as being ‘training wheels’ to recovery, but the person learns to refocus the brain in a conscious manner that becomes a mindful habit, diminishing the obsessions over time. This could be a life changer if not a life saver.

If I could give 10 stars to this book, I would.This book literally made me OCD 99% free.The methods on this book worked for me and I really hope works for you or someone you love.

This book is a good book for people suffering from OCD. However, it focuses too much on the different case studies and only detailed the 4 steps of overcoming OCD in the last few sections. It might be the intent of the author to inspire that there is hope for even the most severe OCD cases and how the 4 steps will help you but the number of OCD cases included is needlessly long. Nevertheless, this book will definitely equip your arsenal of weapons for dealing with OCD.

This was the first book that really helped me understand my OCD and feel understood by the examples that were discussed. The techniques are also very, very helpful- although I learned in therapy that it is extremely important to learn to tolerate the thoughts and feelings and not always distract from them as encouraged in the book. Mindfulness and noticing the thoughts along with taking valued action is what has helped me most.

My psychologist recommended this book to me because I was suffering from relationship OCD. I didn’t even realize I had a form of OCD until reading this book. Page by page it was clear what the real problem in my life is. “It’s not me it’s my OCD.” I started feeling better half way through the book. I believe the four steps discussed will help me improve my quality of life.

If you suffer from OCD, this is a 4 Step Program completely studied by UCLA for a great number of years. His first book. The greatly updated studies are given in "You are not Your Brain" by Jeffrey M. Schwartz M.D. UCLA My psychiatrist recommended this book. If you follow the four steps, it can be a self healing journey.

So helpful. More effective than my therapist. I absolutely recommend this. I could see a difference within a few days of reading.

Simply put: I will never be the same again. I have suffered from OCD since I was 13 and at the age of 26, I can say that this book gave me the tools to break out of hell. I am now a free man. I make my own choices without the fear that OCD brought me. I have been using the 4 steps for 4 years now. I have learned to use it on other problems in my life as well. Today, it not only helps me with my OCD suffering, but suffering in general. I love this 4-step Brain Lock method so much and I only hope that everyone with OCD can read this book. I know that it gave me the tools to work out of my OCD and ultimately out of suffering.
