The book ends with season 3. And it appears to have been written early in season 3, or possibly before season 3 aired. So there is nothing about seasons 4 & 5. I wish that had been made clear before I bought the book.
The description for this book should include that the book only goes through the second season. Sure, there is a little bit about season three, but, come on, there were five seasons. I was expecting more.
I bought the hard copy of this book When it first came out since I am currently re-watching the entire series with my girlfriend who is never seen it before I thought I would reread the book . As I enjoy reading books on the Kindle I bought the Kindle version. Imagine my surprise when this copy of the book only has up to the end of the second season in the episode by episode guide . The hard copy has the entire series. Kind of feel scammed.
Finally, the companion and episode guide for the TV show The Wire has arrived! This edition chronicles all five seasons of the critically acclaimed show. At 500+ pages, there is a lot of material to get through. In addition to season summaries, commentaries and individual episode synopsises, there a number of essays that analyze the massive impact of this show in and outside of the entertainment industry. David Simon, the show's creator has even provided an updated introduction.I think this book is an absolute must-have for any fan of The Wire. Those who have already watched the show will find lots of background information. Those who are watching the show for the first time will find the book helpful to keep track of the multitude of characters, although I really think the better approach is just to immerse yourself in the show, and become the fly on the wall as you piece it all together. I envy anyone watching The Wire for the first time. I remember what that felt like. The Wire is one smart and profound show! This book is it's definitive and authoritative reference work.
I've been a fan of The Wire for years and own the DVD set. The Wire is a complicated series, described by its creator David Simon as a novel in video form. I learned about this book in a discussion forum and am really glad I bought it. If you have ever had questions about the complicated plot lines or the basis for the series, this is a good resource.
Beware: This is not the same as the paperback edition. It's covers only the first three seasons.
What can I say. I love The Wire and have all five seasons which I watch once a year. The book is a great companion and provides an historical back story. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is a fan.
