Review
"A must have for those birding the region."---Ian Paulsen, Birdbooker Report"This island trio is located just off the coast of South America, but, fascinatingly, the birdlife has a strong West Indian element and includes migrants from the north as well as visitors from the south. (American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush, Ovenbird, and Prothonotary, Blackpoll, and Connecticut warblers occur regularly.) Until this handy book, there was no comprehensive field guide." Used during our trip in February to help identify birds seen. Extremely helpful. There are many birds in Aruba which we do not have in the United States so my birding apps and books were not useful there. this book was great. It shows what the birds look like, and which islands they are found (and not found) on. Also places to bird. While our primary purpose in Aruba was not bird watching, we ended up seeing and enjoying many birds because of this book. If you are a bird watcher and are going to Aruba, you should get this book and take it with you.
While 'some' of the illustrations are not up to the quality of Peterson or much of the Nat'l Geo. guide, they are still good (in some cases VERY good) and the FG is well done and easy to use. It made confirming bird IDs in Aruba much easier. Suggestion for the authors: Perhaps 3 thin lines below the text for each species displaying the monthly distribution of the birds for each island. That would really help. This IS a well done field guide that was indispensable on our last trip, and is well worth buying.
Be aware that the type size is VERY small and the text is quite faint. Other than that, the book looks wonderful. I returned mine, however, because I couldn't read the text without a magnifier.... That's the first time that has ever happened!
Great guide in the Peterson style. This is the only English guide specific to these islands I could find. Good drawing and very complete information.
I live on Bonaire and use this book all of the time. Unlike other bird guides for the region, this finely illustrated book concentrates only on the birds of the ABCs. Thus finding the correct ID for a bird that you see is done quickly. This guide also includes species that rarely visit here.
With this guide I was able to look up all the bird I saw in Aruba. It added a great deal to the time I was there!
this is exactly the book that I was looking for! I love being able to ID the birds I have photographed.
The pictures were good. The information on habitat and status was very useful.
