This is a good collection of ghost stories from Tupelo, Mississippi. The stories are short and easy to read, but don't expect much depth.
This book is fantastic, and totally accurate! Having been born in Tupelo MS, with ancestors going back generations to the area since 1830's, I've heard all the history and family stories about what happened on this land. I was born in a haunted house from a French soldier. I have friends who moved into a house with a civil war soldier and another with a little girl who died from illness. I love the way she told these tales. An excellent storyteller!
Not exactly what I expected, but LOVED IT! The way L uses a mix of the town's history and the details of personal accounts to set up the scenes for these stories, I almost felt like I was there, I could see it in my head like a movie (as I can with all good stories). Definitely got creeped out a few times as her words practically transport you to the scene!! I can't imagine the amount of research that went into this - not only for the history of these places, but the stories that I'm sure have been retold over generations. I've already purchased The Haunting of Natalie Bradford, which was referenced in this book - so I might be sleeping with the lights on this weekend!
Well researched and told in an understated tone, Fisher's tales of Tupelo's paranormal history have the flavor of a genteel travel guide. There is much colorful detail, including restaurant tips, specific directions to haunted hotspots, and the findings of various ghosthunters. Civil war soldiers are common sightings to both the locals and visiting tourists, and with Tupelo's proximity to old battle sites, this phenomenon seems utterly natural--,at least, in Fisher's polite rendition of the stories. You'll find yourself longing to partake in a ramble with her as she seems to know not only everyone in town (dead or alive) but where to locate the best steaks, strawberry jam, and cemeteries.
After reading the tales of haunted places I want to go on a ghost hunt. Just to visit these places during the day would give me chills after the tales the author has described. The storytelling is amazingly, totally transporting you to the time and place of the haunting.
I have never been disappointed with L Sydney's books. Always very well written, never boring and as creepy as it gets. My favorite author of all time!
Volume 1 of the series was great Read volume one and couldn’t put it down until the end . Then the next night Volume 2 and the 3rd night starting the volume 3 was . Can’t wait to start some of L. Sidney Fisher’s other books. I am hooked!!!!!
Loved the book. I live near Tupelo, MS and was thrilled to find these stories about familiar places. Read the book straight through. Now on to the book about Pontotoc and Fulton, where I went to school.
